Sferracavallo: a slower side of Palermo by the sea.

A small harbour, the outline of Capo Gallo and restaurants along the waterfront: Sferracavallo reveals Palermo’s maritime character. Make time for a walk, Sicilian flavours and days exploring the city.

Sferracavallo bay, its rocky coastline and the Capo Gallo headland

Sferracavallo’s coastline, between the village and Capo Gallo.

The pace of a fishing village

Sferracavallo lies on Palermo’s north-western coast, at the foot of Capo Gallo. Start at the small harbour, watch the boats, follow the waterfront and explore the streets close to the main square.

The village’s fishing heritage is reflected in its everyday life and food. You do not need a packed itinerary to get a feel for it: a stroll, a café stop and time looking out to sea are a good beginning.

Barcarello, Baia del Corallo and Capo Gallo

Towards Barcarello, the shoreline becomes rockier and the headland shapes the view. Baia del Corallo is another landmark around the bay: choose a stretch of waterfront that suits your time and the day’s conditions.

Before swimming, snorkelling or hiking, check local restrictions, access, weather and sea conditions. Paths and sections of the coast are not always open. For activities on the water, use authorised operators and follow the Marine Protected Area’s rules.

A taste of Sicily by the waterfront

The village’s restaurants are part of a visit to Sferracavallo. Take a break for seafood and ask which dishes and ingredients are available that day, rather than assuming every option is always on the menu.

Between walks, leave time for a Sicilian sweet or breakfast at a café. These small pauses are an easy way to experience the neighbourhood and its daily rhythms.
